Paperbark Cottage – Private Bushveld Retreat | Sleeps 2
A charming and private self-catering cottage for two, tucked away amongst the trees for a peaceful and relaxed bushveld escape. Paperbark Cottage features a comfortable queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom with both bath and shower, and a fully equipped private kitchen with everything you need for an easy self-catering stay. Outside, enjoy your own private braai area surrounded by the sights and sounds of the bush, or light the fire and unwind in your wood-fired “Tickel Tub” hot tub — perfect for relaxing beneath the stars. Private, peaceful and full of bushveld charm — a cosy retreat for two where you can simply slow down and unwind. .
Elephant Root – Couples Bushveld Safari Escape | Sleeps 2
A private and romantic bush-veld safari escape for two, combining the charm of canvas with modern comfort. Umbrella Thorn – Family Safari Tent | Sleeps 2 Adults + 3 Children
A spacious and relaxed family safari tent, designed specifically for 2 adults and up to 3 children wanting to enjoy a real bush-veld camping experience with the comfort of their own private facilities. The large safari tent features a king-size bed for the adults, which can be converted into twin beds, together with a bunk bed and additional comfortable stretcher bed for the children. One of Umbrella Thorns special features is its private open-air en-suite bathroom, with shower, toilet and basin — giving your family the convenience of your own ablution while still enjoying the sights and sounds of the bush. Outside, a fully equipped private gazebo kitchen and dining area provides plenty of space for preparing meals and spending time together. Your own private boma and braai area is perfect for relaxed family evenings around the fire, meals under the stars and quiet mornings surrounded by the bush-veld. Weeping Boerbean – Family Bush Cabin | Sleeps 2 Adults + 2 Children
Tucked away in a quiet corner of the bush, Weeping Boer-bean is a cosy family cabin offering a comfortable escape with a relaxed, rustic bush-veld feel. The cabin features a queen-size bed, sleeper couch, and children’s bunk, making it ideal for a couple or small family. A convenient kitchenette with fridge and gas hob provides everything needed for simple self-catering, while bedding and bath towels are provided for an easy stay. A Private Ablution with shower, toilet and basin is located a short walk from the cabin, approximately 15–20 meters away. It is exclusively for Weeping Boer-bean guests but is not en-suite. Outside, enjoy your own private braai area, boma and fireplace, where you can settle in around the fire and take in the peaceful views across the northern bush-veld. Cosy, private and comfortably rustic a relaxed family escape with just the right touch of the wild.
Sickle Bush Rooftop Tent | Sleeps 2
A unique elevated camping experience for adventurous couples looking for something a little different in the bush-veld. Climb the ladder to your cosy rooftop tent, set on a raised platform amongst the trees. Inside, a comfortable double bed with bedding provided offers a peaceful place to fall asleep to the sounds of the bush and wake to the morning bird calls. Below the tent, you’ll have your own private shaded dining and relaxation area, together with a kitchenette equipped with a fridge and gas hob. Your private braai and fire-pit area completes the bush-camping experience — perfect for relaxed evenings around the fire beneath the stars. A shared ablution with shower, toilet and basin is located nearby, and bath towels are provided for your stay. Because access to the rooftop tent is by ladder, Sickle Bush is designed for adults and is not suitable for children or guests with limited mobility. Simple, adventurous and full of bush-veld character — an elevated escape for two.
Black Thorn – Family & Friends Bush Camp | Sleeps 4
A private and secluded corner bush camp, ideal for a small family, two couples or friends wanting to enjoy a relaxed stay together in the heart of the bush-veld. Black Thorn features two separate tented bedrooms, each furnished with two single beds, providing comfortable accommodation for up to four guests. A shared ablution with shower, toilet and basin is located nearby and is shared with the neighboring smaller tented units. At the center of the camp is a fully equipped kitchenette and dining area, creating an easy communal space for preparing meals, eating together and relaxing between bush-veld adventures. Outside, enjoy your own private braai area and peaceful bush views — perfect for evenings around the fire and quiet mornings listening to the birds.
Knob Thorn & Thorn Pear Safari Tents
Simple, comfortable and surrounded by the bush, **Knob Thorn and Thorn Pear** are ideal for couples, friends or solo travelers looking for an affordable bush-veld escape. Each self-catering safari tent has two single beds, a bar fridge, gas hob, basic cooking utensils and private braai area. Bedding and bath towels are provided, and guests make use of clean shared ablution facilities with toilets and showers nearby Book them individually for a relaxed bush escape, or combine them with Black Thorn Tented Bush Camp for larger families and friends.
Scented Pod Family camp
Tucked beneath a beautiful canopy of scented pod trees, Scented Pod Forest Camp offers a peaceful and private bush-veld escape for families and small groups. (4 - 8 people) The camp features two permanent tented rooms overlooking a nearby waterhole, with two additional dome tents providing flexible accommodation for larger families or groups. Guests have their own separate kitchen, private ablution facilities and an open-air bush shower, adding to the authentic outdoor experience. With plenty of shade, natural bush surroundings and wildlife never far away, Scented Pod is the perfect place to slow down, gather around the fire and enjoy the sounds and atmosphere of the African bush.
Campsites with Private Ablutions

Suitable for tents, caravans and bush trailers, with natural bush separating the sites for privacy. These campsites are located within the fenced Thorn Tree Bush Camp area. Peace & Quiet in the Bush To protect the peaceful bush-veld experience for everyone, we have a strict no-music and no-loud-noise policy. Come for the bush, sit around the fire, listen to the wildlife at night and wake to the calls of the bush-veld. Where the wild calls… and memories are made by the firelight.
Off-Grid Wilderness Camping – No Facilities, No Fences
Off-grid camping is exactly as the name suggests — true wilderness camping with no facilities and no fences. These campsites are located outside the fenced Thorn Tree Bush Camp area, within the Big Five Dinokeng Game Reserve, where wildlife roams freely. Guests must understand that wild animals may move through or around the campsite at any time. There are no ablution facilities, no electricity and no water provided. Guests must be fully self-sufficient and bring everything required for their stay, including their own water, power supply and suitable camping toilet/ablution facilities. These sites are intended for experienced and properly equipped wilderness campers who understand and are comfortable with the realities of camping in an unfenced Big Five environment. Please do not book an off-grid site if you require private or shared ablution facilities, electricity or water. Our six private campsites with their own ablutions are the more suitable option if you require these facilities. No facilities. No fences. Just you and the bush.
